    Description:
Air Force JROTC provides leadership experiences and an aerospace science program for high school students. Secondary school students who enroll in the AFJROTC program are offered a wide variety of curricular and extra-curricular activities. The program explores the historic and scientific aspects of aerospace technology and teaches high school students self-reliance, self-discipline and other characteristics found in good leaders. The AFJROTC program is open to 9th-12th grade students. The program is not a recruiting tool for the military services and those students who participate in AFJROTC do not incur any obligation to the Air Force.

The objectives of Air Force Junior ROTC are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills; promote community service; instill a sense of responsibility; develop character and self-discipline through education and instruction in air and space fundamentals and the Air Force’s core values of “integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”

Classroom study includes the heritage of flight, principles of aircraft flight and navigation, human requirements of flight, development of aerospace power, aerospace vehicles, rocketry, space and technology programs, and the aerospace industry. Students are also introduced to military customs and courtesies, citizenship in the United States, first aid, wellness, health and fitness, basic drill and ceremonies, effective communications, management, human relations, and life after high school. All uniforms and curriculum materials are provided by the Air Force.

Cadets will participate in many outside activities such as field trips to military bases, aerospace facilities and industries, museums, civilian airports and other areas related to aerospace education.

Cadets also participate in parades, leadership laboratory activities, drill team competitions, color and honor guards, military balls, and honorary academic groups and community service events.

Any student that wishes to participate in this exciting program and receive elective credit should register in February. If you have question please contact their counselor or Chief Master Sergeant Henderson (mhenderson@xeniaschools.org) for more information.

    Description:

XHS Big Band is a co-curricular ensemble.  Our primary mission is to provide musical entertainment at district-wide events, and to perform at community outreach events in support of Xenia Community Schools.  Additionally, the band performs at specifically targeted events to raise awareness for the musical arts, and to help recruit elementary students into the middle school band program.  Also, the band periodically performs at various Jazz Festivals throughout Southwestern and Central Ohio.  Typically, Big Band performs at 20-25 events annually.

All interested students must audition for Big Band.  An informational meeting takes place in mid-to-late October.  Auditions are held in early November at the conclusion of marching band season.

Since Big Band is a co-curricular ensemble, students performing on saxophone, trumpet, trombone and drum set must be enrolled in either Symphonic Band or Concert Band.  However, all XHS students can audition for guitar, bass guitar and piano.  Audition information will be disseminated during the XHS daily announcements.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Greg Sell directly for additional information.

Illustrated graphic of a canon with the American flag behind.

The XHS Gamers Club provides a place for people to come together, talk about, and play their favorite games without having to go to a store or someone's home. New members are welcome all year.

Played games are limited to the approved list. The club owns many games, and it is up to all of us to make sure we don't lose pieces, nothing is stolen, etc. You may bring in your own games to play, as long as they are on the list. I recommend that games be brought to Mr. Keefe in the morning and kept in B241. That way nothing gets taken from your locker.

Officer positions will be: president, vice-president, secretary, and sergeant-at-arms. The treasurer’s duties will be managed by the advisor.

We will have a short club business meeting on the first Tuesday of every month, followed by gaming. Club business can be discussed at any meeting, but will be officially handled on those meetings.

Video game consoles are limited access, and members must be paid up for the year to play. It is a perk of paying your club dues. It is not guaranteed that consoles will be at every meeting.

Anyone is welcome to come and play board games, card games, or RPGs, but only members who have paid their dues may propose new games, use club-owned games, participate in tournaments, hold office, vote during business meetings, bring in consoles, play video games, buy t-shirts or hoodies, and be part of the end of the year party.

Some extracurricular trips may be arranged (trip to a convention, game store, etc). These will always be outside of regular school time.  Students who wish to go on these will need to pay for these in addition to regular dues.

    Description:
Over the course of the last 3 years, the XHS Garden Club has been working hard to beautify our high school landscaping and build our own school garden. Our new garden is located in the back of the building by the teacher parking lot. It only consists of 2 raised garden beds and a few benches at the moment. However, our goal this year (and every year) is to make it bigger and better! We have multiple fundraisers every year to raise money for our club. When the weather permits we spend our meetings working outside on our various gardening or landscaping projects. In the winter, we mostly focus on fundraising, learning more about plants, and socializing.

The Garden Club meets every Thursday, after school, in Mrs. Allen's room (B102), from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

    Description:
The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-led organization with chapters at high schools and colleges across the country. The point of a GSA is to unite LGBTQ and allied (straight) youth to build community and organize around issues that affect them in their school and community.  Since our club is student-led, the students get to make it whatever they want it to be.

In past years, the club has focused on education and activism, but this year we have been mostly a social club. Our club motto is "The Platinum Rule."  The Platinum Rule is to treat others the way they want/need to be treated.  If you agree with that motto, then GSA is the place for you, no matter how you identify!

If you still have questions, you could speak with a faculty advisor or check out the GSA website (gsanetwork.org). The GSA meets every Monday, after school, in Mrs. Ohrman's room (B233), from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.

    Description:
HOSA is a global student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and several federal and state agencies. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to affiliate and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, middle school, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. HOSA is 100% health care!

Since its inception in 1976, HOSA has grown steadily reaching over 260,000 members through 54 chartered HOSA Associations, American Samoa, Canada, China, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. HOSA is not a club to which a few students in school join. Rather, HOSA is a powerful instructional tool that works best when it is integrated into the HSE and health science related curriculum and classroom. HSE instructors are committed to the development of the total person. Those who join the HSE-HOSA Partnership recognize the importance of providing students with training far beyond the basic technical skills needed for entry into the health care field. The rapidly changing health care system needs dedicated workers who, in addition to their technical skills, are people-oriented and capable of playing a leadership role as a member of a health care team. HOSA’s mission is especially critical when considering the acute shortage of qualified workers for the health care industry. This shortage has been amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Spring of 2020 countless doctors and nurses returned to the frontline out of retirement and medical school allowed students to graduate early to fight the pandemic. HOSA is a viable solution to health industry shortages. HOSA Advisors globally are promoting the health professions and ensuring that future health professionals are prepared for college and their health profession of choice!
